Chapter Eight

Lucas knew that this was going to be one of, if not the most

important moments of his entire life and every single cell of his body was aware of it. They danced and they moved, anticipation making

everything clench in a way that Lucas had never felt before.

He pressed his lips against Jake’s gently, not rushing, not

pushing, but wanting to do something to help ease the pain that was

so obviously thrumming through his mate’s body. It seemed oddly

like it was something he needed to do. Like he had to.

Jake responded back with only the lightest of pressures. He was

hesitant. More so than Lucas had expected him to be. It wasn’t

because of any lingering worry that Lucas was the cause of his

alpha’s death, Lucas knew that, because he had seen the truth dawn

clearly in his eyes, it was something else.

Pain maybe?

Feeling that perhaps this was inappropriate given the

circumstances?

Only it wasn’t, and Lucas knew that, because if anything could

help it was this, and Lucas was going to do it simply because he

couldn’t do anything else.

“I want you, Jake,” he whispered. “I’ve wanted you from the

moment you walked into the interview room.”

“This is too much,” Jake replied and Lucas could feel the tension

not only in Jake but around him now too. The whole room was filled with it.

“Because you hurt,” Lucas said and it wasn’t a question. Jake

answered it anyway and his voice was low, wounded.

“Yes.”

“Then let me make it a little better,” Lucas said. “I so want to,

Jake. I want to so badly it burns.”

With that thought in mind, and before Jake could say anything

else, Lucas leaned back in and this time he kissed Jake with all the

passion that was bursting to break free inside of him.

After a moment Jake let out a shuddery sort of sigh.

A moment later and he responded.

His lips opened up, and then before Lucas knew it they covered

his. It would be that way of course. Jake wasn’t just alpha of his pack but Lucas had known from the moment he saw him that he would be

the alpha in their relationship too. And Lucas was okay with that. He wanted Jake to take charge of this. To lead them to wherever they needed to go.

Arms wrapped around Lucas’ body, hauling him close, and then

Lucas felt the full length of Jake’s body against him. His mate was

already hard. Lucas could feel his length throbbing between them.

He responded by entwining his arms around Jake’s neck, and that

changed the angle of their lips so that the kiss deepened fully now and their lips were moving, and their tongues dancing, and Lucas’

stomach tumbled over and over as excitement filled him. He could

feel Jake’s beard tickling along his bottom lip and it was a stark

contrast to the strength of Jake’s hands now tugging on the bottom of his shirt.

Lucas moved back slightly so that Jake could lift it up and over

his head. The brief separation that brought about made Lucas groan.

His mate liked that. He sucked in a sharp breath and hauled Lucas

close again.
